Life

"Live life as it is."
-Daniel Dahl

I like this quote, even though I can't quite explain it.

Thanksgiving was fantastic. It was great to be back in Manhattan, but it was also great to be back in Missoula. I wish I wanted to write more. Posted by Picasa

Static-X

Saturday I ate Indian cuisine at an Indian banquet. Then I watched a movie on the evils of Wal-Mart. Sunday I went to a Static-X concert. Today I am going to a movie about Operation Iraqi Freedom.

I enjoyed them all. I hope you enjoy the pictures.

This is my personal favorite. Posted by Picasa

Music is Like Magic

Till I collapse I'm writing these blogs as long as you feel them. Till the day that I drop you'll never say that I'm not posting them. Cause when I am not then I'm just not David.

My week was good. Took a history test. Handed in an economics project. Handed in an English paper. Went to Hamerjacks Thursday (didn't drink). Went to the UM Jazz Band concert last night.

The concert went by so fast, and it was two and a half hours! Everyone knows the feeling they get towards the end of a concert sometimes, where it should just end. I didn't want it to end! It just reminded me so much of when I played, only months ago! I miss it so much. My loyal readers to my blog will remember some of my posts about playing the drums, where I just totally went off on how much I loved it. It was one of the greatest things I had. There is nothing that can even compare to playing the drums.

Music is like magic, there is a certain feeling I get when I am laying it down and people are feeling my shit. This is my moment, and I may never get it again. So while I'm in it, I'll enjoy it as much as I can and when my run is over I'll just admit when its at it's end.

My run isn't over, I just haven't played since I've been in Missoula.

Sad, isn't it?

So there is a place called the Lumberjack, and it is probably 20 miles outside of Lolo in the middle of nowhere. It is a bar that has chainsaws hanging as decorations from the ceiling. It is in the mountains, and the only thing besides the bar is a log home right next to it where I assume the owners live. They don't even have an ATM there!

I went there Saturday night. They had an old country band playing. They did a lot of covers like Sweet Home Montana, Moondance, and other classics. I just jitterbugged my heart out, and I had a fantastic time!

Remember how everyone thought it was so stupid that we had to learn to jitterbug and line dance? I am so thankful we learned that in junior high gym! Not many people know how to jitterbug. It is seriously a fun thing to do, and a good skill to have. My thanks go out to Mr. Fischer.

I think doing homework can be addicting. Actually it is just my personality. I got addicted to studying last week. I spent like three hours sitting quietly in the library pouring over my history books and notes. When I got done I had never felt better. I wanted that feeling so badly that I did the same thing the next day, and it paid off because I know I nailed the test and I wrote a three page paper on Martin Luther that was only for extra credit.

So an addictive personality can be used for positive things. I just have to harness my other addictions, which is extremely hard for me to do.

What Do I Know

Love is the triumph of imagination over intelligence.
-HL Mencken

I think this quote is quite correct. Imagination can be linked to a heart, and intelligence can be linked to a brain. Following your heart is what a person does in love, even if it doesn't make the most intellectual sense. Sometimes the brain can be telling a person one thing, and the heart can be saying the exact opposite. In order for true love to take hold, a person must follow their heart and forget about the actuality of the facts, aka the real world.

I don't really know what I just said, and it is probably just garbage, but I wanted to say it anyway. I have never taken a philosophy class that taught that or anything, I just made it up. What do I know?

I studied for my upcoming history exam for five hours on Thursday. I am going to try to do the same thing today.

The salsa dancing class is closed! I guess it is pretty popular, it filled up quickly. I emailed the instructor and she said she would write me in! So I guess I just have to show up to class the first day with a write-in slip. I'm guessing that those classes are usually low on guys, so that might be why she was so ready to let me join.

People in Class

My American Government class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:40-2:00. At least that is what the schedule says. On the first day of class, the professor told us we would probably be getting out at 1:40 because he thought we could cover everything we needed to in an hour. That was nice of him to give us 20 minutes off each day, I thought.

But others have a different idea.

People get up and walk out whenever they feel like. I am completely flabbergasted by this! It will be 1:35, and the professor will mention that he has a few more points to make before we go, because the rustling of papers and the noise of people packing bags is so loud that it seems like nobody is paying attention, but it doesn't stop people from getting up and walking out like he just dismissed class. I look at them, look at the professor, notice that he notices them, and then look around and see if anyone else is completely dumbfounded by this. These people represent everything that is wrong with this world.

Just because the class is large people must think that ethics and morals go out the window. I can't even begin to express how rude these people are. I am honestly not quite sure how they even live with themselves. I would love to engage one of them in conversation, and then right in the middle of one of their stories just turn my back and walk away without a word. It is the same thing. Can you even imagine?

And it is not just a few people that do it. I bet probably 15 people did it today alone!

Professor Greene likes to make jokes about how many people show up for class, which is kind of funny because there is, quite honestly, only a little over half of the class that shows up. Not only that, but there is even less people by the end of class, and he doesn't seem to care. He just goes on talking while people walk out on him. It's a pretty amazing thing to witness.

Along the same lines, people who start packing up early almost drive me insane. I like to sit in the back because I take notes on my computer, and there have been numerous times that I have missed the last 20 seconds of the lecture, which usually includes the reading assignment and other important announcements, because it is so noisy with people rustling papers, packing their bags, and putting on coats. How rude to make the professor raise his voice! It is simply unbelievable. Why people can't wait 15 seconds and let the teacher finish is beyond my capacity to understand.

I don't want to sound how this is going to make me sound, but I'm simply better than these people in class.

Don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you've got, till it's gone.

I miss my music collection, my picture collection, and my video collection. I used to love hanging out in my room with my friends, scrolling through thousands of pictures of everything we'd done, and listening to any of the over 10,000 songs.

But currently I don't have my friends, my music, or my pictures.

A lot of people share their music on iTunes though, so I have access to a lot of music. I can listen to anyone's music, as long as they live in Aber Hall. It's pretty sweet, but most people don't have the music that I have.

Well I can't seem to get my external hard drive from Beyond Micro. Never buy anything from that company. Beyond Micro is the worst company on the face of the earth. I could leave college right now and completely take over the RMA Department at Beyond Micro and do a better job than whatever wacko they have running it now.

Well I'm off to my English class, where I constantly have to defend America.
